Australian Host Families

Our Host families

Becoming an Au Pair in Australia offers an affordable and enriching way to explore the country. It’s an opportunity to integrate into a family environment and make a positive impact on the children you’ll be caring for.

About Our Australian Host Families

Australians are known for their friendliness, laid-back attitude, and openness, and our Host Families reflect these qualities.

Each Oz Au pair Australia Host Family is unique, with its own dynamics, routines, and needs. No two families are alike, meaning each Au Pair experience is distinct. However, they all share a common passion for hosting Au Pairs.

Australia’s multiculturalism is reflected in our Host Families, who come from diverse backgrounds worldwide. They eagerly embrace cultural exchange and are excited to welcome you into their homes. Hosting Au Pairs from different countries not only provides extra help around the house but also enriches the family with diverse cultural perspectives. Our Host Families love sharing their culture and traditions with you while learning from yours, whether it’s through sharing meals, teaching nursery rhymes, or exchanging languages. It’s all about fostering cultural understanding and connection.

We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone involved in our program, whether a Host Family or an Au Pair, receives comprehensive support throughout the entire process. Our goal is to ensure that the expectations of all parties are met, guaranteeing the best possible experience for everyone involved.

For our Host Families, we offer advice, support, and guidance, along with a comprehensive handbook to prepare them for your arrival. This handbook outlines their responsibilities, including providing a clean room, all meals, appropriate time off, and adhering to agreed-upon working hours and regular payment schedules based on your work hours. Similarly, we outline your responsibilities as an Au Pair, ensuring clear expectations on both sides.

Throughout your placement, we maintain regular check-ins with both you and our Host Families to ensure everything is running smoothly. We are available 24/7 to provide assistance and support for any questions or concerns, regardless of their size.

To alleviate any transportation concerns, your Host Family will provide a one-way ticket from Sydney to their home. In some cases, alternative transportation arrangements may be necessary, such as flights, trains, or buses. If the Host Family lives locally, they may even arrange to pick you up themselves.

Where are our Host Families located?

Our Host Families reside all across Australia, spanning major cities, rural areas including beach and mountain locales, and even the outback! This diversity ensures that no matter your preferred destination, we have a suitable family for you. For more information about the different types of placements available, please refer to our types of placement page.

We recommend applying at least 6 months before your intended departure if you have a specific location in mind for your placement. While we can’t always guarantee your top choice, providing ample time increases the likelihood of securing your ideal placement. The more time you give us, the better chance we have of finding the perfect match for you!

Our Matching Process

Let us handle the search for your ideal Host Family!

Seeking out a Host Family on your own can be daunting and overwhelming. We’re here to alleviate that stress by managing the entire matching process for you. Through our application process, we thoroughly familiarize ourselves with the Host Families in our network. This deep understanding allows us to specialize in finding the perfect match for you, as we understand both your needs and the preferences of the Host Families.

As an Oz Au pair Australia Au Pair, you have the opportunity to communicate all your preferences for a Host Family, no matter how specific they may be. Whether it’s the number and ages of children you prefer, the location, type of placement, pet accommodations, or any special interests like horse riding or swimming, we’ll take it all into account. Our dedicated team meticulously matches your personality and interests with suitable Host Families from our program. We’ll assist in coordinating Skype interviews between you and Host Families until you find your perfect match. While it may take a few interviews in some cases, often just one is enough to find the right fit. After that, you can leave the rest of the process to us!

While we always strive to meet all your requirements, it’s important to recognize that this may not always be feasible. However, applying early increases the likelihood of finding a match that suits your needs. We do recommend remaining flexible with Host Family preferences, as this can expedite the placement process.

What qualities do Host Families seek in Au Pairs?

While Australian Host Families tend to be laid-back, there are certain characteristics they highly value in Au Pairs. These include responsibility, maturity, and a genuine love for working with children. Since childcare is a significant aspect of the Au Pair role, it’s essential to genuinely enjoy it, especially considering the journey to Australia. Host Families appreciate Au Pairs who demonstrate passion for working with children and bring creativity and imagination to their activities.

Patience is also crucial when working with children, as they are constantly learning and exploring the world around them. Additionally, Host Families value Au Pairs who are friendly, open, communicative, independent, cheerful, adaptable, enjoy traveling, and are flexible. While these qualities are commonly found in most people, they hold particular importance for our Host Families.

However, we understand that everyone possesses unique traits, and we encourage you to highlight your individual strengths in your application. Your uniqueness could be precisely what makes you the perfect match for a Host Family!

Rematch Process

Occasionally, placements may not work out, and that’s perfectly normal – after all, we’re only human.

In the event that a placement doesn’t meet your expectations or encounters difficulties, rest assured that Oz Au pair Australia is here to assist you in resolving the situation. If efforts to resolve the issues prove unsuccessful, we can often facilitate a rematch with another Host Family. You’ll begin the matching process anew, engaging in interviews with potential Host Families until a suitable placement is found.

Our dedicated staff will work diligently to secure a new host family for you, aiming to do so within two weeks. However, please note that occasionally this process may take a bit longer due to fluctuations in demand from both Au Pairs and Host Families throughout the year. Nevertheless, being already in the country often expedites the process, as you can communicate within the same time zone and arrange travel promptly.

How do we stand out from the rest?

Oz Au pair Australia  holds the distinction of being the largest of its kind in the country, boasting a solid and trustworthy reputation.

At Au pair Australia, safety is paramount, with a primary focus on the well-being of children, Au Pairs, and our Host Families. To ensure this, all our Host Families undergo a rigorous screening process, including comprehensive applications. Similar to Au Pairs, Host Families complete Federal Police checks, participate in telephone interviews, and provide character references. This meticulous process ensures that you can enjoy your placement in a safe and secure environment.

You may have come across websites or companies offering Au Pair placements in Australia for free or at a nominal fee. While these offers might seem appealing initially, they often lack essential services and support both before and during your stay in Australia. Many of these entities encourage families and Au Pairs to sign up at no cost, promising quick placement without conducting thorough checks. With little to no police or reference checks on Host Families, the prospect of living with complete strangers and traveling halfway across the world can indeed be daunting.
