Perth
Perth is the capital of Western Australia (WA), the largest state in Australia. Situated on the banks of the Swan River and is only a few kilometers from the magnificent beaches of the Indian Ocean. With a population of 1.5 million inhabitants is the fourth largest city in Australia.
Beginnings
Perth was consolidated at the end of the 1820s and was incorporated as a city in 1856. Its name comes from the county of Perth, Scotland. The discovery of gold in 1890 in Kalgoorlie, the construction of piers near the port of Fremantle around 1900 and the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1917 spurred the growth and prosperity of the city. Today, its industries producing metal articles, processed food, rubber articles, building materials and woven fabric.It also has an oil refinery.
Tourist Attractions
On the other hand, tourism is one of the industries that has grown in recent years. Most visitors come from the UK, Singapore, Japan and the U.S.. Among the tourist attractions of Western Australia we can name the beaches, forests and limestone caves. Inside the state stand out gold mines, Goldfields, some of them still active.
